Remedies for Lakshmi to Stay at Home — When Money Does Not Stay

Money comes in but never stays? This guide is not about earning more but about keeping what comes in — through the birth chart, the planets, harmony at home and simple, harmless remedies.

The salary arrives on the first of the month. Customers come to the shop. And yet, by the twentieth, the wallet is light again. The income is reasonable, there was no big loss — and still the savings jar never fills. Sooner or later the question comes: is it simply not in our fate for money to stay? Vedic astrology does not answer with a plain yes or no. In a birth chart, the house that brings money in, the house that holds it and the house through which it leaves are three different houses — and beside them sits a fourth, the house of peace at home.

This is not a "how to get rich" article. It has one subject only — how to make what already comes in stay at home. We will look at the 2nd house (savings), the 11th house (income), the 12th house (expense) and the 4th house (comfort at home); how Venus, the Moon and Jupiter support Lakshmi; how Rahu and Saturn affect spending; what tradition means by "grihalakshmi", the Lakshmi of the home; and which simple remedies anyone can do at home. One thing must be said at the start: no remedy is a guarantee. A remedy done with regularity and faith gives support, and only sensible spending alongside it turns that support into real savings.

Money Coming In and Money Staying — Two Different Things

Most of us assume that if income rises, savings will follow. Experience says otherwise. In many homes the income doubles and the spending doubles with it, while some families on a modest income still put a little aside every month. Vedic astrology explains this difference through the bhavas, the twelve houses of the birth chart. When it comes to money, four houses speak louder than the rest.

Think of a clay water pot. The 11th house is the tap — your income. The 2nd house is the pot — whatever stays inside is your savings. The 12th house is the outlet — your expenses. And the 4th house is the ground under the pot — comfort at home and peace of mind. If the ground keeps shaking, even a full pot spills. So the pot must be sound, the outlet controlled and the ground steady — opening the tap wider is not enough.

The 12th house is not always bad. Every home must spend on food, schooling, medicine, festivals and charity. Astrology separates spending that gives something back to the home from spending that simply leaks away — like money spent on show, or to cheer yourself up after a quarrel.

HouseClassical nameWhat it showsLink to money staying
2ndDhana bhava (house of wealth)Savings, speech, kutumba (family), foodHow much money actually stays at home
11thLabha bhava (house of gains)Income, gains, elder siblings, wishes fulfilledWhere money comes from and how much
12thVyaya bhava (house of expense)Expenses, losses, charity, sleep, distant travelWhich route money takes out of the home
4thSukha bhava (house of comfort)Home, mother, vehicles, peace of mindWhether the atmosphere at home lets money settle

Notice one detail. The 2nd house is also the house of speech and family: the house used to judge savings also shows how family members speak to one another. This is no coincidence. Where words are bitter, spending is usually scattered too — on making up after a sulk, on show, on hurried decisions. In the same way, the 4th house belongs both to the home and to the mind. Much of this article rests on that link: money staying and harmony at home are read, to a large extent, from the same places in the chart.

Why Money Does Not Stay — The Houses and Their Lords

Every house holds a zodiac sign, and every sign has a ruling planet, called the bhavesha, the lord of the house. A lord carries the work of its own house into whichever house it occupies.

The 2nd House — How Sound Is the Pot?

When the lord of the 2nd house sits in its own house, in the 11th house, or in good condition in a kendra (an angular house: the 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th) or a trikona (a trinal house: the 1st, 5th or 9th), tradition sees this as support for accumulated wealth. Such people tend to save something even from a small income.

When the lord of the 2nd house goes into the 12th, money meant for savings tends to turn toward spending — money set aside for one purpose gets pulled into another. This is not a sign that "money will never stay"; it means savings must be kept separate and written down.

With the 2nd lord in the 6th house (illness, debt, disputes), money can go to loans, treatment or quarrels; in the 8th (sudden events), unexpected costs touch the savings. Tradition calls the 6th, 8th and 12th the dusthanas, the difficult houses. A lord there means its matters need extra effort and care — not "it will not happen", but "it will happen with handling".

Planets sitting in the 2nd house also have their say:

  • Jupiter — in tradition, a sign of family prosperity and sweet speech; money is spent with good judgement.
  • Venus — good food and a taste for beautiful things; savings happen, but the hobbies need watching.
  • Saturn — money gathers slowly, but once gathered it stays; discipline is the key.
  • Rahu — confusion in speech, muddled spending decisions, a pull toward unfamiliar schemes.
  • Mars — sharp words and quick decisions; hasty spending needs a brake.

The 11th House — How Far Is the Tap Open?

When the 11th lord sits in the 2nd house, income turns into savings — one of the best combinations for money staying. When the 11th lord sits in the 12th, the routes of expense open the moment income arrives. Many charts show a strong 11th house and a weak 2nd: such people earn well but cannot hold on to it — exactly the situation this article is about. For them, better advice than "earn more" is: "divide money the day it arrives — savings first, spending after."

The 12th House — How Wide Is the Outlet?

When the 12th lord sits in the 2nd, expenses are drawn out of savings. When it sits in its own house, spending usually stays in check. Planets in the 12th house show which way spending leans:

  • Jupiter — spending on dharma, charity, children and education, which gives something back to the home.
  • Venus — tradition considers this good for comfort and pleasures, but spending on ease and decoration grows.
  • Rahu — hidden or sudden costs, things whose account you cannot recall later.
  • Saturn — expenses linked to elders or health; slow, but steady.

The 4th House — How Steady Is the Ground?

The 4th house rules the home, the mother, vehicles and peace of mind. It has a deep bond with the Moon, the karaka (significator, the natural indicator) of the mind and the mother. When the 4th house is disturbed, there is little rest at home; people eat out and shop to lift their mood. This spending is hard to see, yet it often hurts most by the month's end.

Rahu in the 4th can bring restlessness at home; Saturn, the weight of responsibilities; Mars, arguments about land and property; Jupiter or Venus, a lean toward comfort and decoration. All of these share one remedy principle — calm the atmosphere at home, and the spending that comes from the mind falls on its own.

No single combination reads a whole chart. The same placement gives different results in two people, because the other planets, the dasha (the running planetary period) and the gochar (the present movement of planets, or transit) differ. If the birth time is wrong, the houses themselves shift. These points are for understanding, not for worry.

Venus, the Moon and Jupiter — Three Supports of Lakshmi

In tradition, Lakshmi's day is Friday, the day of Venus. In the Puranic story of the churning of the ocean, both Lakshmi and the Moon rose from the waters, which is why tradition calls the Moon Lakshmi's brother. And Jupiter is the significator of wealth; its day, Thursday, is the day of Vishnu worship — and Lakshmi is Vishnu's consort. So these three planets are examined first.

Venus — The Taste for Comfort, and the Habit of Spending

Venus signifies comfort, luxury, beauty and marriage. Taurus and Libra are its own signs; it is exalted (at its strongest) in Pisces and debilitated (at its weakest) in Virgo. A strong Venus brings beauty and ease into a home, with balance — good things are bought and looked after.

When Rahu influences Venus, or Venus sits in the 12th house, the taste for comfort can turn into a spending habit. Each purchase feels "just a little", yet the total grows large. A weak Venus can work the other way: the home lacks warmth, and money goes out to fill that gap. Either way, the remedy is to make Venus auspicious and keep beauty at home together with simplicity.

The Moon — When the Mind Settles, Money Settles

The Moon signifies the mind; it is exalted in Taurus and debilitated in Scorpio. Its sign of exaltation, Taurus, is ruled by Venus — a hint that the mind is steadiest when the home has comfort.

The Moon's role in money matters is the most underestimated of all. Most needless spending comes from the state of the mind — a tired or restless mind looks for relief in shopping. When the Moon is joined by Rahu, Saturn or Ketu, sits in the 6th, 8th or 12th house, or was very faint at birth (close to the new moon), tradition advises paying attention to steadiness of mind. This is no label of blame, but a sign that for this person, caring for the mind is the first step toward saving.

Jupiter — Significator of Wealth, Giver of Judgement

Jupiter signifies wealth, children and knowledge. Sagittarius and Pisces are its own signs; it is exalted in Cancer and debilitated in Capricorn. Besides the 7th, Jupiter casts a drishti (aspect, its "glance" or influence) on the 5th and 9th houses from itself. When Jupiter aspects the 2nd or 11th house, tradition treats it as support for barkat — the blessing that makes money last.

Jupiter gives not only wealth but the wisdom to handle it — what is needed, and which spending is dharma and which is wasteful. When Jupiter is weak or surrounded by papa grahas (planets of harsh nature, such as Saturn, Rahu and Ketu), decisions tend to go wrong even when earnings are good. Astrology also assigns directions to planets, and Jupiter rules the north-east (Ishan) — which is why a clean north-east is tied to Jupiter below.

MoonMind, motherMood-driven spending, late-night buyingMonday routine, Shiva worship, honouring the mother
JupiterWealth, knowledge, judgementPoor decisions despite good incomeThursday Vishnu–Lakshmi worship, a clean north-east

Rahu and Saturn — Their Effect on Expenses

People often fear Rahu and Saturn, but Vedic astrology sees them as teachers. Rahu takes money out quickly; Saturn brings money in slowly.

Rahu — Confusion and "I Need It Now" Spending

Rahu is the planet of illusion and of sudden events. When Rahu sits in the 2nd or 12th house, or its mahadasha (major period, eighteen years in the Vimshottari system) is running, something seems urgently necessary in the moment and useless later. Schemes that promise to double money quickly start to look attractive.

Rahu in the 11th house is traditionally considered good for income, but desires grow at the same speed. Rahu's key is pausing — a rule of waiting twenty-four hours before any large purchase. Alongside it, worship of Goddess Durga and Rahu's mantra help clear the mind:

'Om Dum Durgayai Namah'

'Om Bhraam Bhreem Bhraum Sah Rahave Namah'

Saturn — Delay, Burden and the Lesson of Discipline

Saturn is the planet of hard work, delay and the weight of debt. Capricorn and Aquarius are its own signs; it is exalted in Libra and debilitated in Aries. Besides the 7th, it aspects the 3rd and 10th houses from itself. Saturn in the 2nd house gathers money slowly; in the 12th, expenses run continuously; in the 11th, income comes late but lasts.

When Saturn moves through the 12th, 1st and 2nd signs counted from the natal Moon sign, tradition calls this period of roughly seven and a half years Sade Sati. Its third phase — Saturn in the 2nd sign from the Moon — asks for discipline in matters of money and family. When Saturn transits the 4th or 8th sign from the Moon, that two-and-a-half-year period is called dhaiya; the dhaiya over the 4th sign can feel like a weight on comfort at home.

There is no need for fear. Saturn rewards those who walk with discipline, and a saving habit built during Saturn's period often lasts a lifetime. Saturday's mantra, reciting the Hanuman Chalisa, and serving hard-working people and the elderly are its simple remedies:

'Om Praam Preem Praum Sah Shanaischaraya Namah'

Dasha and Transit — The Element of Time

In the Vimshottari dasha (a 120-year cycle of planetary periods), each planet has its own span — Ketu 7 years, Venus 20, Sun 6, Moon 10, Mars 7, Rahu 18, Jupiter 16, Saturn 19 and Mercury 17. Whichever planet's period runs, its houses come forward in life: in the 12th lord's period, chances to spend may increase; in the 2nd or 11th lord's period, saving feels easier. Jupiter stays roughly a year in each sign; when it transits the 2nd or 11th sign from the Moon, tradition treats it as support for savings and income.

The meaning is simple: a phase in which money does not stay is not permanent. In a hard phase, remedies and discipline keep losses small; in a good phase, the same habits make savings grow.

Grihalakshmi — Whom Tradition Calls the Lakshmi of the Home

Indian homes have an old custom of calling the woman of the house "grihalakshmi", the Lakshmi of the home. When a new bride arrives, people say "Lakshmi has come"; in many places a pot of rice is placed at the threshold for her griha pravesh (first entry into the house). The spirit of this custom is respect — a home's blessing is linked to honour for its women and harmony among its members. It never means the burden or blame for the family's money should fall on one woman.

Tradition calls Lakshmi "chanchala" — the restless one who does not stay in one place. Where, then, does she stay? The Anushasana Parva of the Mahabharata contains a conversation between Lakshmi and Rukmini, in which Lakshmi explains that she lives where there is truth, effort, cleanliness, self-restraint and mutual respect, and that she leaves places of laziness, quarrel and insult. Keeping Lakshmi at home is, at heart, a tradition of routine and harmony.

Later tradition counts eight forms of Lakshmi, the Ashtalakshmi. Alongside Dhana Lakshmi (wealth) are Dhanya Lakshmi (grain, food) and Dhairya Lakshmi (patience, courage). A lovely hint for our subject: respect for food and patience are both forms of saving.

Where the Grihalakshmi Appears in the Chart

Harmony at home is read from nearly the same places as money staying:

  • The 2nd house — family and speech; how members of the home speak to one another.
  • The 4th house — comfort at home and the mother; whether the heart feels at rest in the house.
  • The Moon — the mind; whether family members' minds meet or pull apart.
  • Venus — comfort, gentleness and the beauty of the home.
  • The 7th house — the spouse; the understanding between husband and wife.

So quarrels at home also come out as expenses — upset people decide without telling anyone, and the shared budget breaks apart.

Mother-in-Law and Daughter-in-Law — Two Generations of Grihalakshmi

In many homes, decisions about the kitchen, the budget and daily shopping lie with the mother-in-law and the daughter-in-law. One generation trusts in saving and keeping; the other spends according to the times. When their temperaments and minds meet, a clear order forms in the home and money settles by itself. When their speech is strained, every expense gets two opinions, and sometimes things get bought twice.

One thing must be said plainly. Statements like "money left after the daughter-in-law came" or "the blessing went after the child was born" are correct neither by astrology nor by tradition. No single member's chart decides a household's money; everyone's running period, their mutual harmony and the household's habits shape it together.

The Grihalakshmi Is Not Only the Women's Responsibility

In tradition, Lakshmi stays only where Narayana (Lord Vishnu) is. Vishnu is the deity of order, dharma and sustaining. In a household, this means the earning member earns honestly, respects the women of the home, does not throw money away on show, and decides with everyone's counsel. So the remedies below are for the whole family.

Simple Remedies for Money to Stay — With Method

Before beginning any remedy, keep these rules in mind:

  • One or two remedies, done fully — far better than ten done half-heartedly.
  • Chant a mantra 108 times a day (one mala, a string of 108 beads), for at least 43 days without a break. If a day is missed, start the count again.
  • Fast only if your health allows. Elders, pregnant women and anyone on medication should only worship and chant.
  • No remedy is a guarantee, and never borrow money for worship or charity.

1. Friday Mahalakshmi Worship

On Friday, after your bath or at evening lamp-lighting, clean the puja place. Before a picture of Lakshmi, place a ghee lamp, white or pink flowers, a little akshat (unbroken rice) and, as naivedya (a food offering), kheer or rock sugar. Then chant this mantra 108 times:

'Om Shreem Hreem Shreem Kamale Kamalalaye Praseed Praseed Shreem Hreem Shreem Om Mahalakshmyai Namah'

If time is short, the short mantra can be chanted with equal faith:

'Om Shreem Mahalakshmyai Namah'

Any member of the family can do this worship; it is good if everyone stands together at least for the aarti. If the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law worship together, it becomes a remedy for harmony in itself.

2. Shri Sukta and Kanakdhara Stotra

Two texts are the best known in Lakshmi worship. The Shri Sukta is a hymn from the khila (appendix) portion of the Rigveda, invoking Shri, that is, Lakshmi. Tradition attributes the Kanakdhara Stotra to Adi Shankaracharya. The story goes that the boy Shankara went begging alms at a very poor woman's house; she respectfully gave him the only thing she had, a dried amla (Indian gooseberry). Shankara sang Lakshmi's praise, and golden amlas are said to have rained on that house — grace began where, even with little, there was a heart to give.

Both are long, so read them in correct form from a reliable book, once on Friday.

3. Sandhya Deep — The Evening Lamp

Sunset is called sandhya, a time for prayer and calm in tradition. Every evening, light a lamp of ghee or sesame oil at the puja place, and if you like, near the main door. After lighting it, sit quietly for a minute or two, then say 'Om Shreem Mahalakshmyai Namah' eleven times.

This brings the household to a pause once a day; tradition says there should be no quarrelling at sandhya. The habit calms both the 4th house (comfort at home) and the Moon (the mind). Keep the lamp away from curtains and children, and never leave it burning unattended.

4. Thursday — Vishnu and Lakshmi Together

Lakshmi is restless, yet she stays beside Narayana — so tradition values worshipping Vishnu and Lakshmi together. On Thursday, offer yellow flowers and chana dal with jaggery or bananas, worship them together, and chant this mantra 108 times:

'Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya'

If Jupiter is weak, or the 2nd and 11th houses need support, also chant Jupiter's mantra on Thursday:

'Om Graam Greem Graum Sah Gurave Namah'

If time permits, recite the Vishnu Sahasranama. The Satyanarayan katha on the full-moon day is also a lovely way to bring the family together.

5. The Puja Place, the North-East and the Money Corner — Simple Vastu

Vastu is a separate discipline; here are only simple points with no demolition and no expense:

  • Keep the north-east (Ishan) clean and light. Vastu treats it as the direction of the divine, and in astrology it is Jupiter's. Avoid clutter there; if possible, keep the puja place here.
  • Clean the puja place every day. Remove wilted flowers; a broken idol or torn picture can be respectfully left at a temple.
  • Keep the main door clean and well lit — in tradition, Lakshmi is said to enter through the door.
  • Respect the kitchen, the place of Annapurna, goddess of food; serve only what will be eaten.
  • Keep the money cupboard in order. In tradition, north is Kubera's direction, so it is good if the cupboard opens toward the north; if that is not easy, keeping the place clean is enough.
  • Fix dripping taps. In folk belief, dripping water stands for money leaking away — this is a folk tradition, but a practical one too.

Lakshmi gives wealth; in tradition, Kubera is the treasurer of the gods — the one who looks after wealth, a fitting role for our subject. If you wish, chant this mantra on Friday or Thursday:

'Om Yakshaya Kuberaya Vaishravanaya Dhanadhanyadhipataye Dhanadhanyasamriddhim Me Dehi Dapaya Svaha'

6. Moon Remedies — For a Restless Mind

If most spending comes from the state of the mind, Moon remedies help most. The Moon's day is Monday, and the Moon rests on Shiva's head.

  • On Monday, offer water on the Shivalinga and chant 'Om Namah Shivaya' 108 times.
  • On Monday evening, chant the Moon's mantra 108 times:

'Om Shraam Shreem Shraum Sah Chandramase Namah'

  • Honour your mother and the elder women at home, and sit with them daily — the 4th house is also the mother's.
  • On the full-moon night, sit quietly in the moonlight for a few minutes.
  • Do not shop on your phone just before sleep — a tired mind is at its loosest at night.

7. Charity — Within Your Means

The 12th house rules expense and also daan (charity). What must go out anyway can be given the right direction — through charity, 12th-house spending becomes punya (merit). Tradition suggests setting aside a small portion of income for giving, but the rule is clear: give only as much as is comfortable; never borrow to give.

DayPlanetCharity within your means
MondayMoonRice, milk, white cloth
ThursdayJupiterChana dal, turmeric, books
FridayVenusKheer or white sweets, at a temple or to young girls
SaturdaySaturnBlack sesame or mustard oil, help for labourers or the elderly

Give with respect, not for show.

8. Household Routine and the Monthly Money Meeting

A few habits that connect directly to the houses:

  1. Clean the house in the morning and light the puja lamp. Begin the day with order.
  2. Set aside savings on the day income arrives. Let the money of the 11th house reach the 2nd before the 12th can pull it away.
  3. Eat together once a day. The 2nd house rules family and food.
  4. Keep speech sweet at home. The 2nd house rules speech; relationships hurt by harsh words are often patched up with spending.
  5. Wait twenty-four hours before any large expense. This is a remedy for both Rahu and a restless Moon.
  6. Hold one meeting a month. On the first Thursday, let the elders sit for fifteen minutes — what came in, what went out, what was saved, what large expense is ahead. Jupiter signifies judgement, hence Thursday.

With debt, sensible spending alongside astrology matters most — reduce the costliest loan first. Tradition recites the Rinmochak Mangal Stotra for the burden of debt.

A Weekly Routine

DayWhat to doTime
MondayWater to Shiva, 'Om Namah Shivaya' or the Moon mantra, time with mother15–20 minutes
TuesdayList of broken things and repairs, remembering Hanuman ji10 minutes
WednesdayWrite down the week's spending, 'Om Gam Ganapataye Namah'10 minutes
ThursdayVishnu–Lakshmi worship, 'Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya', clean the north-east20–30 minutes
FridayMahalakshmi worship and mantra, Shri Sukta or Kanakdhara Stotra20–30 minutes
SaturdaySaturn mantra or Hanuman Chalisa, help someone who works hard15 minutes
SundayRest with the family, plan the next week, leave no quarrel unfinished15 minutes
Every eveningSandhya deep, two minutes of quiet5 minutes

This is a suggestion, not a binding rule. One practice kept up for a whole year is itself a great remedy.

What Not to Do — Stay Away from Totke and Fear

All kinds of advice arrive in hard times, much of it baseless. Avoid these:

  • No totke (folk tricks). Hanging lemon and chillies, driving in nails, throwing things at a crossroads, floating things away in water, rituals with hair or nails — these are not remedies of Vedic astrology.
  • Do not buy costly "siddh" (supposedly charged) objects out of fear. A remedy that makes you spend heavily to save money is no remedy.
  • Do not suspect anyone. "Someone has done something to us" is a thought that breaks relationships; look at the chart and the habits first.
  • Do not blame any single member — not the daughter-in-law, not a child, not an elder.
  • Do not wear gemstones on your own. If you want to wear one, do so only after showing the full chart to a knowledgeable astrologer; the gemstone of a planet that needs calming can have the opposite effect.
  • Do not trust promises of a "sure result". No remedy ensures that money will suddenly arrive or never leave.
  • Do not cut necessary spending on medicine, education or food. Astrological remedies go alongside a doctor's treatment, never in its place.

Common Situations — What to Look at First

A Home's Money, a Home's People — Why Both Charts Matter

In short: money staying is not about a single member's chart alone. One member may earn, but decisions about spending, the kitchen and the budget are shared. If two key people at home do not see eye to eye, if their speech is strained, or if both are in a heavy period at once, then however good the wealth yogas in one chart, money finds it hard to settle.

When money does not stay at home, the present period of the family members and their mutual harmony often run alongside it. That is why the Kundli Milan Jyotish team recommends two matchings for this subject:

  • Saas-Bahu Kundli Milan (mother-in-law and daughter-in-law) — the harmony of the home's two generations of grihalakshmi. It looks at four kootas — gana (temperament), graha maitri (friendship of the Moon-sign lords, the meeting of minds), bhakoot (how each affects the other) and tara — for a total of 21 points; it is not the eight-koota marriage matching. It also reads both women's Moon (mind), their place in each other's chart, the house of the home, speech and the present period, and gives remedies.
  • Griha Shanti Kundli Milan (home peace) — any two family members: father and son, two brothers, mother and son, or any two people who make household decisions together. It looks at the match of temperaments, the Moon, the 4th house (peace at home), speech, Pitru dosha and Kaal Sarp (both matters of tradition; Kaal Sarp is not found in the ancient texts and is a later tradition — the report presents them as tradition only), the current dasha and Saturn's transit, and gives remedies.

Every report is made from both people's date, time and place of birth. After payment, the full result opens on the site right away. The full report comes as a PDF — each person's own birth chart, the complete method of the remedies, a weekly routine and a section called "Your Questions — Straight Answers". Where a husband and wife handle the money together, the Pati-Patni (husband–wife) Kundli Milan also gives remedies from their dasha and Saturn's transit.

One honest word: our report does not predict how much money will come to your home, or when. It reads both people's charts for family relationships, the mind, the present period and their remedies. But as you have seen, the houses of money staying — the 2nd (family and speech) and the 4th (comfort at home) — are the same houses as harmony at home. When the mind of a home settles and spending decisions are made together, a path opens for money to stay. Reading both charts side by side shows where the strain lies, what period is running, and which remedy to begin with, for whom.

Frequently asked questions

Can any remedy make sure that money will stay at home?

No, no remedy is a guarantee. Astrological remedies steady the mind, bring routine and harmony into the home, and lighten a hard period. A remedy done with regularity and faith gives support; alongside it, saving on the day income arrives, pausing before large expenses and deciding together are essential.

What is the simplest remedy for Lakshmi to stay at home?

The simplest start is the sandhya deep, the evening lamp. Every evening, light one lamp at the puja place, sit quietly for a minute or two and say 'Om Shreem Mahalakshmyai Namah' eleven times. Add Friday Mahalakshmi worship. This small habit brings the family together each day and calms the mind — and a calm mind spends less carelessly.

Does money stop staying at home because a new member has joined the family?

No. The idea that money left "after the daughter-in-law came" or "after the child was born" is correct neither by astrology nor by tradition. No single member's chart decides the money of the whole household. Everyone's running period, mutual harmony and the household's habits shape its finances together. Tradition, in fact, honours a new bride as the grihalakshmi.

Can only women do the Friday Mahalakshmi worship?

No, any member of the family can do this worship — women, men, elders or children. In tradition, Lakshmi stays beside Narayana, so the participation of the men of the house matters just as much. If the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law sit and worship together, it also becomes a remedy for harmony at home.

Which should I recite — the Shri Sukta or the Kanakdhara Stotra?

Both are well-known texts of Lakshmi worship. The Shri Sukta is a hymn from the appendix portion of the Rigveda; tradition attributes the Kanakdhara Stotra to Adi Shankaracharya. Choose the one you can keep up regularly, and read it in correct form from a reliable book. Reciting once on Friday is a good start.

What should we do for money to stay during Sade Sati?

During Sade Sati, Saturn asks for discipline; there is nothing to fear. On Saturday, chant 'Om Praam Preem Praum Sah Shanaischaraya Namah' or recite the Hanuman Chalisa, and help hard-working people or the elderly within your means. During this time, take new loans only after careful thought, postpone large expenses and write down the monthly accounts.

Will your report tell us when money will come to our home?

No, our report does not predict wealth. The Saas-Bahu or Griha Shanti Kundli Milan reads both members' charts for temperament, mind, speech, the house of the home, the current dasha and Saturn's transit, and gives remedies. The houses of money staying — family and comfort at home — are the same as those of harmony, so this understanding helps.

What should and should not be kept in the north-east corner?

In tradition, the north-east (Ishan) is the direction of the divine, and in astrology it is Jupiter's direction. Keep it clean, light and bright; if possible, keep the puja place here. Do not keep heavy cupboards, clutter or footwear there. No demolition is needed — cleanliness and order are the essence of this simple vastu.
