Common questions

What people ask most often about Kundli Milan.

The gunas and the count

How many gunas are needed in Kundli Milan?

Under 18 counts as low, 18–24 as average, 25–32 good and 33–36 excellent. But the count alone is not enough — a zero in Nadi, Bhakoot or Gana has to be read separately.

Does a low score mean the marriage cannot happen?

It is not a final verdict. Doshas often stand cancelled by classical rules, and remedies improve harmony. Do have a complete chart-matching done by a qualified astrologer.

Why do two astrologers arrive at different guna counts?

The difference usually comes from one of three places. First, the ayanamsa — we use Lahiri (Chitrapaksha), the Indian government standard; Raman or KP can put the Moon in the neighbouring nakshatra. Second, Vashya needs the Moon's degree for Sagittarius and Capricorn, which many calculators skip. Third, the Nadi and Bhakoot cancellations — some return the full score, some half. Every koota page here says plainly where we differ and why.

Is a full 36 out of 36 a good thing?

A full 36 comes only when all eight kootas score fully — the same kind of gana, a favourable bhakoot distance, and different nadis (the same nadi scores 0 in the nadi koota). Very few pairs reach it. A 36 is good, but the decision never rests on the number alone — Manglik, both full charts and the dashas are read alongside.

What is the matching actually based on — the whole chart?

The 36 gunas of the Ashtakuta are built from the Moon-sign and the birth-nakshatra alone. The full chart — the 7th house, the Navamsha, the dashas, the Manglik position — is read separately and matters just as much.

The gunas are low but everything else looks right — which do we trust?

This is the question that matters most, and the shastra answers it: the guna count is not proof on its own. Our report weighs thirty-eight things, and all thirty-six gunas together are one of them — about three and a half percent of the whole verdict. The 7th house, the Navamsha, the strength of the marriage karakas, the dasha timing: those decide the rest. That is why a low count never makes this report advise against a marriage.

The doshas and their cancellations

Can a Manglik girl marry a non-Manglik boy?

Yes. The first thing to check is whether the dosha really stands. If Mars sits in its own sign, is exalted, or falls in the 7th in Cancer, Leo, Sagittarius or Pisces, the dosha is cancelled outright. Jupiter's aspect, a dual sign, or the company of the Moon, Saturn or Mercury reduces its force. When both are Manglik, the shastra holds it mutually cancelled. Our calculation checks all of this on its own — and Manglik is one voice among thirty-eight, never a bar by itself.

Are remedies like Kumbh Vivah necessary for Manglik dosha?

We do not sell remedies, and we do not use fear to push anything. The shastra does record remedies, but our report's job is to tell you the truth — whether the dosha stands, which of the three reference points (Lagna, Moon, Venus) it arises from, and which cancellation already applies on its own. Very often one already does and nothing is left to do. Whether to go further is between you and your own astrologer.

What should we do if there is Nadi dosha?

First see whether it stands in full or weakened. There are three classical exemptions — one Moon-sign with differing nakshatras, one nakshatra with differing Moon-signs, or one nakshatra with differing padas. On any of them the shastra holds it weakened — we award 4 out of 8, not the full 8, and the report says so plainly. Nadi is the heaviest koota of the Ashtakuta, that much is true, and it carries its own separate voice in the verdict. But that too is one voice out of thirty-eight. The report tells you what the other thirty-seven are saying — and the decision belongs to that whole picture.

How serious is Bhakoot dosha?

Bhakoot carries seven gunas — lighter than Nadi, but not light. It scores zero when the two Moon-signs stand at a 2-12, 6-8 or 5-9 distance. Three cancellations apply: the same rashi for both, the same nakshatra-lord, or rashi lords who are natural friends. Any one of them brings the full seven back. If none applies we do not hide it — even at 28 gunas the report writes it out separately.

What if the two share the same rashi or the same nakshatra?

Sharing a rashi is generally held to be good — Bhakoot gives the full seven, and it weakens a Nadi dosha if there is one. Sharing a nakshatra turns the question to the pada: if the padas differ, the shastra accepts it. Our calculation reads the nakshatra padas separately, so that distinction shows in the report rather than being buried.

How exact the birth details need to be

Can the matching be done if the birth time is unknown?

It can. If the time is left blank we cast the chart for 12:00 noon, and that is stated on every section built from the lagna, the houses, the navamsha or the dashas — the Manglik lagna frame is then not read at all, only the Moon and Venus. In the verdict those calculations also carry reduced weight, so an assumption is not weighed like a fact; the ones that do not shift with time — the 36 gunas, Nadi, Bhakoot, Gana — carry it instead. It is still less exact, because the Moon covers about half a degree an hour and a changed nakshatra moves 21 of the 36 gunas.

How much error can the birth time take?

It depends on how far the Moon stands from a boundary. The Moon covers about thirteen degrees a day, so it takes roughly twenty-four hours to cross one nakshatra — which means a twenty-minute error usually does not change the nakshatra at all. But if the Moon sits near a boundary, even a few minutes can. That is why the report states it separately: how far each Moon stands from its boundary, and what that distance comes to in minutes of birth time.

Can we enter our current city instead of the birthplace?

No — that will make the matching wrong. The birthplace fixes the Lagna and the houses, and the Lagna changes sign every two hours; even a few hundred kilometres can move it. Enter the actual city of birth. If it is not in the list, pick the nearest large city — a gap of fifty to a hundred kilometres is generally fine.

What if the birth was outside India?

It will work. The list now also holds cities across the Gulf, the USA, the UK, Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, Singapore and Malaysia, East and South Africa, Mauritius, Fiji and the Caribbean. Each city carries its own time zone, and the offset is worked out for the birth date itself — which matters, because many countries move their clocks in summer. New York is −4 in July and −5 in January; Colombo was even +6 for a stretch. The historical rules are included too, so a birth from decades ago still lands correctly.

Which panchang or ayanamsa is used?

The Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa — the Indian government standard and the most widely used. Planetary positions come from the Swiss Ephemeris, the same mathematics that runs inside a professional astrologer's software. A calculator using a different ayanamsa can put the Moon one nakshatra away — that is when the gunas come out different.

Marriage, the report and this service

Is kundli matching necessary for a love marriage?

We would not use the word “necessary”. Matching is information, not a permission slip. If the two of you have already decided, then all the matching does is tell you in advance where your temperaments meet and where a little care will be needed. Our report does not advise anyone against a marriage — not on a low count, and not on a dosha.

How does matching work for a second marriage?

The calculation is the same — both birth details, and the Ashtakuta and everything else built exactly as before. The report reads the 7th house, the Dara pada and the marriage karaka separately, which are all the more useful here. We do not ask for age or any earlier marriage, and neither enters the calculation.

What does the report contain?

The matching report runs to about twenty-eight pages — the 36 gunas, all eight kootas separately, Manglik matching, Papa Samya, the Nadi-Bhakoot-Gana doshas with their cancellations, marriage timing, and how much error the birth time can take. Take the full report and each person's own chart comes with it, which brings it to roughly forty pages.
