The heaviest kootas
Nadi, Bhakoot and Gana dosha
Of the thirty-six gunas, Nadi carries eight and Bhakoot seven — the two heaviest kootas. And these are the two whose zero is not bought off by the guna count.
Nadi dosha
The twenty-seven nakshatras fall into three nadis — Aadi, Madhya and Antya. Different nadis take all eight gunas; the same nadi takes none, and that is Nadi dosha. The Ayurvedic idea of vata-pitta-kapha stands behind it, which is why it is tied to health and to the joy of children.
Cancellation: when the Moon-sign is the same and the nakshatras differ, the shastra reads it as a partial cancellation — the dosha is weakened, not erased. Full cancellation needs examination and nivaran by a qualified astrologer.
Which nakshatra falls in which nadi
The twenty-seven nakshatras divide nine each into three nadis. The Ayurvedic idea of Vata, Pitta and Kapha sits behind this, and that is why Nadi is tied to health and progeny — which is also why it was made the heaviest koota of the Ashtakuta and given eight gunas. Find your own nakshatra below and you can tell for yourself whether the two nadis are the same or different.

Bhakoot dosha
The distance between the two Moon-signs is read. A 6-8, 2-12 or 5-9 gap is held dosha-prone. But three classical exemptions apply, and any one of them cancels it:
The same rashi
Both Moons stand in one rashi.
One nakshatra-lord
Both nakshatras share their lord.
Friendly rashi lords
The two rashi lords are natural friends.
Gana dosha
A Manushya-Rakshasa pairing scores zero and is held serious. As with Bhakoot, the same three exemptions apply — one Moon-sign, one nakshatra-lord, or friendly rashi lords.
Worth holding on to: even at 28 gunas, an uncancelled Nadi, Bhakoot or Gana dosha is not a clear go-ahead. Our matching checks all three separately and says so plainly in the result.
