Ashtakuta · 4 Gunas
Yoni
Natural compatibility
The twenty-seven nakshatras carry fourteen animal yonis — horse, elephant, sheep, serpent, dog, cat, rat, cow, buffalo, tiger, deer, monkey, mongoose, lion. The same yoni takes all four gunas; the seven enemy pairs (cow-tiger, serpent-mongoose and the rest) take none.
What a zero means
Yoni scores zero only when the two yonis form an enemy pair (cow-tiger, serpent-mongoose and the other five). Not grave, but not to be waved away either — natural compatibility runs low.
How it is counted
- Take the yoni from each nakshatra — one of fourteen animal yonis. Twenty-seven nakshatras share fourteen yonis, so nearly every yoni covers two nakshatras.
- Read the score off the 14×14 table — same yoni 4, friend 3, neutral 2, enemy 1, bitter enemy 0.
Where we differ from the common practice
This four-guna koota has a full five-step scale, so middling scores like 2 and 3 are ordinary. A zero falls on only seven pairs — all seven are named in the table below.
Its weight in the verdict
This koota has no separate voice of its own. It is counted inside the single “36 gunas” voice — which means Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni and Graha-Maitri, all five, arrive together as that one voice.
| Voice | Weight |
|---|---|
| The 36 gunas — all together | 1.0 |
| Nadi — its own separate voice | 1.3 |
| Bhakoot — its own separate voice | 1.1 |
| Gana — its own separate voice | 0.9 |
| Dashakuta — Rajju and Vedha | 0.6 |
| The extended kootas | 0.6 |
| The other 33 voices | 24.2 |
| Total — 39 | 29.7 |
Our verdict is built by weighing 39 voices, whose weights total 29.7. All thirty-six gunas together are one of them — about 3.4% of the whole verdict. The rest is decided by the 7th house, the Navamsha, the Saptamsha, Vimsopaka, Jaimini, the dasha timing, Manglik and the others. That is why this report never tells anyone to call off a marriage over a low count.
